The Best Of: Pierogi

Pierogi…ever heard of it? I wouldn’t be surprised if you haven’t. Pierogi is a polish treat comprised of a dumpling made of unleavened dough, usually surrounding some sort of filling. The most popular type of pierogi often consist of a potato filling and cheese, but can also include anything from blueberries to sauerkraut.

Let me give you some life advice – try pierogi. It’s absolutely incredible. To help you get started, I’ll give you a run down of my favorite pierogi at the store and in the city, in addition to including some best practices on how to prepare and serve. Na Zdowie!

No two ways about it  – Mama T does is right. Bang for your buck it doesn’t getter better than these PIEROGI. The boil sauté combo creates the perfect texture for these delectable potato noodles.

“Mmmmm, so. Good. So soft. Just the right amount of chew and softness.” – Joe (oops…it was me!)

Optimal Cooking Instructions

1. Boil water in pot.

2. Put in PIEROGI. Once water boils again, continue to cooking for another 3 minutes. Stir.

3. Drain PIEROGI. Move empty pot to another burner. Place PIEROGI on pan and sauté for 6-8 minutes on med-low heat, or  until lightly crispy. Use non-stick spray. Turn over PIEROGI periodically to cook evenly on each side.

4. Put tsp of butter in pot. It should melt since pot is still hot.

5.  Once PIEROGI are done in the pan, put them back in the pot and mix around with butter.

6. Enjoy the deliciousness. For optimal enjoyment, cook kielbasa with minced onion separately and serve with PIEROGI.

Golden Potato & Onion Pierogi

Review

Not bad. Not bad at ALL. A little blander, so a bit of extra salt and butter would go a long way. I would suggest cooking just a bit more than the suggested 6-6.5min boil time to get some extra softness, then throw em on the skillet to get the right texture. All in all, not the best I’ve ever had, but will get the job in a PIEROGI pinch.

My personal verdict? The best PIEROGI I’ve ever had. If you truly want to change your view on life and you’re too poor to purchase a South American Trip that ends in an Ayahuasca trip, eat these PIEROGI. Thank me later.

Alexandria Meat Pierogi

Review

Meat is a very interesting ingredient to place in your PIEROGI…but I’m not mad about it. It’s just a tad dry, so paired with a nice mizeria (sour cream and cucumbers) really balances out the flavor. Any meat fan will be a fan of these PIEROGI.

Alexandria Cheese and Potato Pierogi

Review

An absolute top notch choice for any PIEROGI lover – the cheese is flavorful but doesn’t overwhelm every other part of the tasting experience. Good price point at $3.50/12. Great flavor – slightly more than Mrs. T’s. Would highly recommend.

“F*ckin’ incredible” – Joe

Kasia's Bacon and Potato Pierogi

Review

Quite similar to the cheese and potato PIEROGI, but ends with a chewy taste from the bacon. A bit blander than some others, as the bacon doesn’t overwhelm you with flavor; however, a balanced taste that will be great for any PIEROGI fan boy/fan girl.
